Arguments about taking out the trash or the dishes are rarely about the trash/dishes when they arise persistently between romantic partners who have fallen out of love or become disillusioned or are in just ongoing crisis and distress. How is it that someone who used to make you so happy not only is no longer able to soothe you but an active source of pain? When things get this bad, you need to start looking at how each partner is processing pain, anxiety and danger and equally, how each partner affects the other in these threatened states.
