Approved by the Canadian Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (CAMFT) for qualifying supervisors.

This 30-hour training is designed to align with the clinical supervision training expectations of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and includes structured instruction, reflective learning activities, and evaluative components (quizzes).

In the ever-evolving field of psychology, the significance of clinical supervision as a distinct professional competency has grown over the past two decades. Both the Canadian and American Psychological Associations now acknowledge the vital role of clinical supervision, making it a requirement in accredited programs. Additionally, internship sites are encouraged to offer predoctoral interns the opportunity to supervise psychology trainees at an earlier stage of development.

The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) has further emphasized the importance of clinical supervision, transitioning it from an “emerging” area of competence to an “established” one. Recognizing its significance, the CCPA, the Ontario Association for Mental Health Professionals, and the BC Association for Clinical Counsellors have implemented supervisor credentialing schemes. Furthermore, various regulatory bodies, such as The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board, now require supervisors of candidates for registration to have undergone supervisory training.

In this 30-hour clinical supervision training, Dr. Chang will provide an in-depth exploration of the Contextual-Functional Meta-Framework (CFM) for clinical supervision. The training is informed by contemporary research in clinical supervision, counsellor development, and competency-based learning, and integrates principles of deliberate practice to support skill development.

The CFM is a versatile, evidence-informed approach applicable to a wide array of professional activities, including therapy, assessment, and consultation. It transcends various behavioural health disciplines and theoretical orientations, making it a highly adaptable and universally relevant framework.

In this workshop, participants will gain valuable insights into the intricate dynamics of clinical supervision. Participants will also engage in structured reflection and applied exercises to support the integration of concepts into real-world supervisory practice. Dr. Chang will guide attendees in organizing their supervisory efforts more effectively and efficiently within the CFM framework. Moreover, this training will serve as a pathway for participants to develop their personalized and effective approaches to clinical supervision.
