Led by Ulrich Schnyder
This is a 2 hour On Demand Webinar. Access information, resources and CEU information will be available shortly after registration and registrants will be given unlimited access to the recording for a full year.
This webinar was broadcasted live on October 21, 2022 as part of the Collective Trauma Conference
The efficacy of psychotherapeutic and pharmacological approaches in the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is empirically well documented. Many well-controlled trials with a variety of trauma survivors demonstrate that trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is effective in treating PTSD.
This lecture gives an overview of available empirically supported psychotherapies for PTSD. Although each have their unique characteristics, they also have much in common. In fact, the commonalities far outweigh the differences. Many such commonalities will be discussed in detail. Pharmacotherapeutic options will also be addressed.
We’ll also look at promising future developments. These may include combination treatments for comorbidities, “mini-interventions” for specific trans-diagnostic problems, and treatment elements for enhancing resilience, such as mindfulness-based approaches. And we’ll discuss why psychotherapists working with trauma survivors need to develop their cultural sensitivity.
At the conclusion of this workshop, attendees will be better able to—
- Identify the difference between trauma and trauma-related psychological disorders
- Differentiate the diagnostic criteria of acute stress disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and complex posttraumatic stress disorder
- Understand the differences and commonalities of evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches for trauma survivors
- Develop an overview of medications for posttraumatic stress disorder
- Learn about resilience to stress and resilience training
