Intimacy from the Inside Out© (IFIO) brings together aspects of psychodynamic theory and family systems theory, along with an assumption that each of us has access to an internal resource that helps guide us with wisdom and love. IFIO is an experiential, systemic approach that helps people make sense of their life experiences in a safe and collaborative way. It is a simple but powerful model with applications for work with individuals, couples, and systems of all sizes.
Toni Herbine-Blank will describe and demonstrate ways of using IFIO in working with couples. Using IFS with couples, the therapist invites exploration of each individual’s inner life while supporting the couple in envisioning a lively dance that includes communicating well, repairing inevitable rupture, making room for the needs of both individuals as well as the needs of the relationship, reclaiming passion and exploring the self-to-self connection.
Toni Herbine-Blank is a Senior Lead Trainer for the IFS Institute and developer of the Intimacy from the Inside Out® curriculum (IFIO) for couples therapists. She practices in Durango, Colorado, where she lives with her husband Jordan and a menagerie of animals. She is a dynamic and down-to-earth presenter who leads training for therapists across the country.
Toni Herbine-Blank has just released her book on IFS and couple therapy. She encourages anyone interested in IFIO or IFS Couple Therapy to purchase a copy. You can purchase it through our local bookseller, Caversham Bookseller, here or through Amazon.
By the end of this training, attendees will be better able to—
- Describe the basic IFIO protocols
- Understand the IFS perspective on differentiation and attachment
- Describe goals and assumptions of the IFIO model
- Apply IFIO protocols in clinical practice
- Unblending as a tool for affect regulation
Toni Herbine-Blank, MS, RN, C-SP, is a Clinical Specialist Psychotherapist and Senior Trainer for the Center for Self Leadership.
