This workshop will present “soulfulness” as an approach to racial-cultural collective trauma. This approach centers contact with our deep, interconnected, and embodied inner aliveness as a healing resource. It has specific application for resilience and liberation in the context of oppression through its attention to the dynamics of disconnection. The dynamics of disconnection are at the core of understanding the harm done by racial-cultural trauma. These dynamics include dehumanization, destruction, delusion, and disempowerment.
The principles and domains of the SOUL-centered (Soulfulness-Oriented, Unitive, Liberatory) practice framework will be presented in this workshop. The soulfulness approach is an integrative approach to enhance and optimize your overall well-being through practices that touch and express soul with particular inspiration by the culture, wisdom, and spirituality of Africa and the African diaspora. Emphasis is placed on expressions of reconnection and interconnectedness. Healing principles relevant to our shared humanity and human suffering are embedded in the soulfulness approach. They can be applied to working with collective trauma more broadly.
At the conclusion of this workshop, attendees will be better able to:
- Describe the key characteristics of the soulfulness approach
- Identify and define at least three dynamics of disconnection involved in racial-cultural collective trauma
- Explain how a soulfulness approach can contribute to healing racial-cultural collective trauma
