Happy National Relaxation Day!

Blog  Uncategorized

Life can be stressful and many of us see the stresses our clients face. Adding the many stresses that our clients present with our own personal stresses can get overwhelming at times. A recent twitter trend was celebrating National Relaxation Day (#nationalrelaxationday) which is vital for maintaining overall physical and mental health. This got me thinking (and researching) ways to relax at work or home and mostly without the requirement of a spa day or vacation!

The Mayo clinic recommends a variety of relaxation techniques that you can do in the comfort of your own home or any space where you can relax.

  • Autogenic relaxation allows you to visualize images and become more aware of your body to reduce stress. Take a break from reading this blog, close your eyes and repeat words or suggestions in your mind to help you relax and reduce muscle tension.
  • Progressive muscle relaxation suggests you work different muscle groups separately to become more aware of physical sensations. Try starting at your toes and tense only small sets of muscles for 5 seconds and relax for 30 seconds, and work your way up to your head.
  • Visualization is the technique of using mental images to take you on a journey to a relaxing place. If possible add scents, touch, sounds or sights to increase the relaxation. Even simple things like scenic screen savers, aromatic deffusers, or calming music can help.
