Description

In the ever-evolving field of psychology, the significance of clinical supervision as a distinct professional competency has grown over the past two decades. Both the Canadian and American Psychological Associations now acknowledge the vital role of clinical supervision, making it a requirement in accredited programs. Additionally, internship sites are encouraged to offer predoctoral interns the opportunity to supervise psychology trainees at an earlier stage of development.

The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) has further emphasized the importance of clinical supervision, transitioning it from an “emerging” area of competence to an “established” one. Recognizing its significance, the CCPA, the Ontario Association for Mental Health Professionals, and the BC Association for Clinical Counsellors have implemented supervisor credentialing schemes. Furthermore, various regulatory bodies, such as The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board, now require supervisors of candidates for registration to have undergone supervisory training.

In this 30-hour clinical supervision training, Dr. Chang will provide an in-depth exploration of the Contextual-Functional Meta-Framework (CFM) for clinical supervision.

The CFM is a versatile approach applicable to a wide array of professional activities, including therapy, assessment, and consultation. It transcends various behavioural health disciplines and theoretical orientations, making it a highly adaptable and universally relevant framework.

In this workshop, participants will gain valuable insights into the intricate dynamics of clinical supervision. Dr. Chang will guide attendees in organizing their supervisory efforts more effectively and efficiently within the CFM framework. Moreover, this training will serve as a pathway for participants to develop their personalized and effective approaches to clinical supervision.

Key Workshop Highlights:

  • Understanding the Evolution of Clinical Supervision: Explore how clinical supervision has transformed from an emerging area of competence to an established and indispensable aspect of professional development.
  • Compliance and Credentialing: Learn about the supervisor credentialing schemes established by prominent associations and regulatory bodies and their implications for supervisors and trainees.
  • The Contextual-Functional Meta-Framework (CFM): Dive deep into the CFM, discovering its adaptability to various professional activities, disciplines, and theoretical orientations.
  • Enhancing Supervisory Effectiveness: Discover practical strategies to enhance and organize your supervisory efforts within the CFM framework.
  • Personalized Approaches to Clinical Supervision: Develop a personalized approach to clinical supervision, tailored to your unique style and the needs of your trainees.
